The Swinging Skirts Golf Foundation’s chairman Johnson Wang has been committed to promoting women’s golf for many years, even holding events at San Francisco for the past three years, which has greatly improved Taiwan’s global recognition and reputation. In 2014, Wang organized the Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic in San Francisco, marking the first time a Taiwanese person has hosted a world-class professional golf tournament on American soil, and also the first ever tournament in the US where the LPGA co-sanctioned it with another association. In 2017, Swinging Skirts has decided to shift its focus back to Taiwan, and will host the Swinging Skirts LPGA Taiwan Championship at the Miramar Golf Country Club in Linkou District from October 19 to 22.
From 2014~2016, the Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic was held at the Lake Merced Golf Club in San Francisco, and through official broadcasting partner NBC Golf Channel, reached 171 countries and more than 247 million viewers around the world. It was broadcasted exclusively by Fox Sports in Taiwan, allowing Taiwanese fans to watch this important tournament live. Through the broadcasting system, it not only showed the world the brilliant performances of the players, but also greatly increased Taiwan’s global recognition.
Over the past three years, the Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic has provided an opportunity for many Taiwanese women golfers to compete on the global stage. Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic is not just a golf tournament, the Chairman Wang has manifested this annual tradition into a world class sporting event. Even the club is full of Taiwanese traditional decorations. They also have specialized designs just for player's credentials. In the last 3 years, the organization has put delicate thoughts into preparation, decoration, maintenance, player support and VIP service. They want to make sure players and guest feel respected and welcomed.
This year, Swinging Skirts is returning to Taiwan to host the Swinging Skirts LPGA Taiwan Championship, where Taiwanese fans would get to see the best golfers around the world compete. The tournament has a total purse of US$2.2 million, which is the highest of all championship in Asia. Would a Taiwanese golfer manage to secure the trophy at home?
